Current Role President of AIA and Electrical Engineer |
|
Hi I’m Jon Mathison. I graduated from Washington State University with a BS in Physics in 1990. In 1994 I completed a Masters Degree in Physics at the University of Oregon, where I researched silicon light emission, photoluminescence, "quantum dot" phenomena, and developed an automated electrical/optical testing apparatus. I founded Advanced Industrial Automation in 1999, providing industrial automation, communications and engineering services. My role is to communicate complex, multi-faceted technical issues and propose technically superior solutions grounded in cost/benefit analysis, while maintaining our client’s goals through to the optimal solution. I’m committed to providing the highest quality leading edge design and integration services available, to increase productivity and exceed the expectations of our many clients in government, public safety, healthcare, commercial, and education. I also provide electrical and I&C training to treatment plant staff through Washington Environmental Training Resource Center (WETRC) at Green River Community College (GRCC) and other locations throughout Washington, and teach electrical classes at North Seattle Community College (NSCC). I enjoy spending my free time with my three kids doing many things they like to do. I’ve joined the ranks of bicycle commuters in Puget Sound doing our part to take care of the environment. I love to ride my bike and in 2009 completed the STP (Seattle To Portland) race. I also love hiking in the Cascades and gathering with friends. Some evenings you might even find me singing oldies at Karaoke. |

Current Role Electrical Designer |

Adam Boyd
I’m Currently working on: |
Hello, my name is Adam Boyd and I am AIA’s resident AutoCAD expert. I earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design from ITT Tech in 2006. I enjoy the technical challenge of creating detailed communication and electrical drawings of automation equipment and instrumentation interconnectivity, such as process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), typical and detailed wiring and electrical panel diagrams, elevations to engineers’ specifications, and block diagrams showing communications, control, and data acquisition components. I like details, and designing with AutoCAD gives me lots of hands-on exposure to them on a daily basis. Recently I returned to school part-time to work on a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, so classes and work keep me very busy. But when I do have some free time, I enjoy writing. I’m an avid "Gamer" and love to play World of Warcraft and other online role-play games. I share my apartment with my cat Buzzy. |

Andrew Esvelt
I’m Currently working on: |
Current Role Service and Design Engineer |
|
Hi I’m Andrew Esvelt, an electrical engineer with AIA. I received my BS in Electrical Engineering from Washington State University in 2006. As a Service and Design Engineer, I perform integration tasks on start-up and upgrade projects, consult on project designs, and respond to troubleshooting and emergency service calls. I understand computer systems and enjoy working with computers and programming software. I’m also fascinated by electricity and rotating machines. My programming skills, along with a knack for hunting down bugs have brought me success in my role at AIA providing top notch PLC programming and HMI configurations, instrumentation system setup, integration and troubleshooting. A little bit of creative ability also helps. I’m a great listener and communicator, which allows me to gather and respond to feedback, providing excellent training for our industrial applications. By far the most rewarding part of my work is leaving a troubleshooting job or particularly difficult start-up knowing that the customer is absolutely satisfied and enamoured with my work. My job is fast-paced and diverse - depending on the job and customer, my responsibilities can be wildly different. I enjoy being able to turn any situation around and solve my customer’s problems. I enjoy being outdoors and lead an active lifestyle. When I’m not at work you might find me shooshing downhill at Stevens Pass or Crystal Mountain, sailing, or swimming in Lake Sammamish. I also love live music performances, playing cards with friends and perfecting my home brewing skills. |

Christine Grigg
I’m Currently working on: |
Current Role Bookkeeper / Administrative Assistant |
|
Hi I’m Christine Grigg. I manage the bookkeeping and payroll for AIA, keeping everyone on track with their time and project accounting. I also handle the other administrative tasks around the office that keep the office running smoothly. I have attended Lake Washington Technical College, and recently I returned to classes there to gain additional skills in Accounting and Quick Books. I enjoy learning new tricks and shortcuts that make my work more efficient. In addition to my job at AIA, I’m on staff part-time at Lake Washington Foursquare Church where I coordinate the children’s ministry. I’m very patient, a skill that I came in handy in my previous job as a nanny. I have a creative side, which I like to express by doing needlework (cross-stitch) and scrap-booking. I also play the piano and teach piano lessons to kids. When I’m not working, I like to get together with my friends, watch movies and play board games. |

Jaci Berni
I’m Currently working on: |
Current Role Marketing Consultant |
|
Hi I’m Jaci Berni. I received a BA from the University of Washington in Sociology. In 2007 I completed a Masters degree in nonprofit management at Seattle University, where I researched Generational Diversity and Succession Planning. I also hold an Associate of Arts degree in Business and Marketing from Highline Community College, a Certificate in Human Resource Management, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Resource Development from Bellevue College. I love learning and consider myself to be a lifelong learner. My background includes Marketing Research, Technical Support, Financial Services, Fund Development, Legal and Management. My role at AIA is identifying and cultivating relationships with potential customers and other key decision makers and positioning, differentiating, developing and promoting Advanced Industrial Automation’s broad array of engineering services. This includes branding and development of high quality written communications, proposals, brochures and articles to increase awareness of our services and expertise. I also oversee and maintain our web content with the goal of strengthening the company’s web presence and reach. I am a "people person" in the truest sense, so the most rewarding part of my job is working with people both inside and outside of the company. I’m always interested in learning their stories, helping them to develop new skills and solid connections with each other and with AIA’s work. I spend my free time socializing with friends, or with my yellow Labrador Retriever, Homer, walking on the beach or throwing the ball endlessly. I’m interested in organic gardening, developing healthy and sustainable local food sources, and protecting the beautiful environment we are blessed with in the Pacific Northwest. I also enjoy reading, singing Karaoke, dancing and downhill skiing. One of my personal goals for this year is to learn Spanish. |
